Finding a way to pay $3 million health bill

Sometimes life gets so hard it's simple. You take one moment at a time. You put one foot in front of the other. Last April 1, Tucsonan Chris Huber couldn't do even that. His neck was broken, his legs were dangling by shreds of skin and he was trying to climb off a car that had just dragged him 288 yards. He struggled to stand - with bones sticking out of his flesh

Judy;

Thank you for publishing this story.
It shows the cost that drunk drivers so frequently impose their innocent victims and their families. Please support the efforts of the legislature, courts and law enforcement to get drunk drivers off the road.

This reinforces my longfelt belief that the alcohol industry needs to be held financially accountable for the havoc their product wreaks upon society.

An alcohol tax with revenues eartagged specifically for health and property damage should be levied on each and every ounce of alcohol sold. A system by which healthcare providers can submit alcohol-induced damages can be put in place for re-imbursement.

Alcohol is a hard drug and I am no longer willing to subsidize the phenomenal amount of human suffering it causes while members of the alcohol industry wallow in pure profit.

We are in a junction here in the US dealing with health cost so great that no can individually afford to receive car. They must spend a fortune on high cost insurence (Partly because of our Sue happy citizens).

Some of our elected people want to make healthcare free for everyone. Like in several countries where the citizens of those countries complain because you become a number in that type of system. You don't receive quality care!

The United States is going bankrupt for MANY reasons. One that is a simple and needed fix. The laws already support it, our government does NOT! But free health care has been availiable!

We have mor than 12 Million people in this country that have come here ILEGALLY! We are and have been providing FREE healthcare, educations, welfare, housing among a few to these people!

Let do what the law requires, close our borders! Stop the providing for Ilegals.

Lets PROVIDE for OUR LEGAL CITIZENS!

Think of the money that we would have to use on OUR citizens if we STOPPED giving a free rider to ILLEGAL FELONS!

The whole situation is crazy!

I pay my bill, provide healthcare to my family. After I do this for my family, if someone is in need and I have the ability. I will help them.

If I were to loose my job and couldn't provide for my families health care. I would go to my government and ask for help. But that is my government, I am a citizen!

I wouldn't go to Mexico or Brazil requesting assistance from those governments. If they were to help, I'm sure the US would have to pay them back and of course I would also!

Take care of Our Own!

#3 is sad but true
But the alcohol industry does not force anyone to drink just like guns do not make people go on shooting sprees. People are responible for thier behavior and choices of what they do. this family is amazing and will be okay because they know what is important is family and do not take time feeling sorry for themselves too long but go on and do what has to be done. The world would be utopia if more people were like this woman. Our thoughts and love are with Chris and his family. Anyone who knows them should help in anyway they can, that is what people need to be about is taking responibilty for our own choices and helping others when we can.

#3 Illegal or legal is not the issue here. Making the alcohol industry responsible may help, but you are going against a billion dollar industry. what we need to do is revamp our health care system. That is where the real issue is. Cuba has a better health care delivery system than we do. Did you see the movie SICKO? A third world country mind you.We need to do what the other modern industrialized nations have done, UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE. England,France,Spain, Sweden, Denmark and others don't leave their people out in the cold after a catastrophic event or sickness. This is where the real issue is. Oh and by the way you can get stoned legally in Denmark. Enuff said.

don y, If they were Australian and illegally in the country they could qualify for free health care, has nothing to with "bigots" It has to do with rule of law. Rule of law is that you knock on the front door to enter my home, not slither in the window, and expect the American taxpayer to foot the bill for "illegals" regardless if they are from Mexico, Canada, Australia.

TAKE ALL THE BILLIONS BEING SPENT IN THE IRAQI FIASCO AND USE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR THIS. AT $3.50 A GALLON OF GAS YOU'D THINK WE'D ALL QUALIFY FOR FREE HEALTH CARE WITH ALL THE PROFITS THE OIL INDUSTRY IS MAKING. USE THOSE PROFITS FOR UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE. ENUFF SAID.

Too bad Chris or his family didn't beleive in health insurance. Premiums range from $26 to $100 per month, and he would still have $2,000,000 of benefits left. Sam

Take a real look at the health care in the socialist nations such as England or Canada. In England the dentists have gone on vacation as they have met their quota and so those needing dental work won't be able to get it until the new fiscal year begins. Why do you tink our northern hospitals are filled with Canadians? It is because they can't get the timely care they want in Canada.

Looks like little juanito is taking this whole illegal mexican thing all very personal.

Wake up little jonnie, the illegal mexican problem is a real and massive problem to our country..

Health care insurance for catastrophic injury or illness is very reasonable and esay to obtain.
However, even if the kid in this article would have had insurance of that sort it's unlikely that he would have carried a policy big enough to cover 3 MILLION dollars in alleged medical care. How can the cost of his medical care be $250,000.00 a month, 8220 a day? How can that be possible?

The real problem is the cost of health and medical care, not the cost of insurance. The cost of medical and health care insurance is driven in part by the overwhelmingly excessive fees and charges being imposed on Americans by doctors, hospitals and other so-called health care professionals.

We don't need socialized health care! We need competition among health care providers.

That competition will come after we stop running to the doctor for every little thing. When we stop relying on drugs to mask symptoms and start taking responsibility for our own health and well-being.

What would happen to the cost of health care if we used the same model as we do for our Homeowners or Automobile Insurance?

We would pay for the incidentals out of pocket and only hit the insurance policy for the major incidents.

Cost of insurance would fall and so would the cost of services rendered by the medical community.

If the government is funding anything it should be medical research, not health care and medical services!

Hey #3,14, & 18 --- You are just going to get the "illegal" issue in this aren't you ? Tsk Tsk! ~~And you enjoy name calling also ! Focus on the issue at hand! This family might not have been a perfect family but they sure have been helping others, and are grateful for all the optimism & assistance they have received. KUDOS to them! Shame on you others that only have negativity to say & try to put the blame on others!

Sam no. 15 Pull your head out of the sand.
Health insurance for a family can be 600.00 a month or more if you have to pay for it your self. Sometime you can't even buy it at all.
