The Arizona Wildcats are set at tight end with Rob Gronkowski, and the future looks good, too, with Jack Baucus committing to UA football team over the weekend.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound tight end from Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Ill., gave an oral commitment for the 2009 recruiting class.

"I really liked the atmosphere down there and talking to the players it seemed like there were a bunch of good guys," Baucus said in a telephone interview Sunday, "and I think there is a great opportunity for playing time as well."

Baucus, used primarily as a blocker in a triple-option attack in high school, has watched game film of the Wildcats and how they use Gronkowski, and likes what he sees.

"They really use the tight end well and the coaches have told me how (the position) can be used more and I like that," Baucus said.

The three-star (out of five) Rivals recruit should get more chances to catch passes this year as a senior. He caught only eight last year.

Carmel Catholic High has two quarterbacks vying for the starting job.

"They both like to throw the ball and the coach has said we will pass more so I'm hoping to show I can catch as well as I can block," Baucus said.

Baucus said he had offers from Colorado, Illinois State and Northern Illinois, and was about to be given scholarships by Purdue and Northwestern.

Illinois was going to give him an offer to play as a lineman.

"I want to play tight end," he said. "After I get there and if it is best for the team, I will switch, but I want to see what I can do as a tight end and Arizona recruited me to play that way."

JohnnyQuest, you are absolutely correct. A future OT. He's just what Cory Edmonds looks for in OT's -- tall and rangy. 2 years from now, this kid will be 290+ and using the skills he's learning as a blocking TE in his high school's triple option attack.

He will end up at OT
