A 44-year-old Marana counselor will spend the next nine months in prison after admitting to having sex with a 16-year-old female client.

Richard E. Giberti will get 50 days credit for pretrial time spent in the Pima County Jail.

After Giberti is released from prison, he will spend 10 years on probation as a sex offender, which requires registration.

Giberti must also surrender all licenses and certificates.

Giberti founded the TLC Charter School and was its director until his arrest. He also had is own counseling business. His wife reportedly still runs the school.

The girl's mother suspected a relationship between the girl and Giberti and reported the matter to the Sheriff's Department.

The girl told detectives she had a sexual relationship with Giberti from August until the middle of December, while she was a client, deputies said.

Giberti was sentenced Thursday by Pima Superior Court Judge Charles S. Sabalos.
