All three of Arizona's state universities have been named to the "100 best values in public colleges" list by a national business publication.

Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine named Northern Arizona University, the University of Arizona and Arizona State University to its annual list of colleges that provide "top-notch education" combined with "outstanding economic value."

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was listed the No. 1 best value, while NAU was No. 63, UA was No. 85 and ASU was No. 92. Last year, only UA made the list among Arizona public schools.

The annual rankings consider several factors, including SAT scores, admission rates, the percentage of freshman who return the next year, student-faculty ratios and graduation rates. Schools also are ranked based on cost of attendance and amount of financial aid available for students. Colleges and universities often use the rankings to promote their schools.

The results are in Kiplinger's February issue available on newsstands today and online at: www.kiplinger.com/.

The only fallout from this will be that (1) the Arizona legislature will reduce funding to these institutions because they are obviously too good a deal, followed by (2) the regents will further increase tuition.
