Tucson's Earth Day celebration will see some changes this year.
Saturday's 14th annual Tucson Earth Day Festival and parade will move from downtown to Reid Park, said Christina Bickelmann, event co-chair.
The event will also combine with the annual Clean Air Fair, which in past years has been scheduled on a different weekend than Earth Day in April, Bickelmann said.
The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Earth Day parade will begin at 10 a.m.
This year's local Earth Day theme is "All Species Need Clean Air" and the parade will feature an "all species procession," said Pamela Beilke, event co-chair.
"We are encouraging entries to focus on species from this part of the country and have their theme surround different animals and plants that are species of this region," Beilke said.
The Earth Day celebration will include about 60 exhibitors, Barb Ricca, event treasurer, said.
"They will be environmental education exhibits," she said. "Many of them will be geared to children with some sort of hands-on activity. But the parents or adults will learn a lot, too."
Exhibits will cover topics such as groundwater, energy conservation, alternate fuel vehicles and recycling, she said.
The event will also include a competition in which middle school students from around the state will race small model solar-powered vehicles they built.
Two musical groups, Batucaxé and Shadz Band, will provide entertainment from a stage powered by solar panels, Bickelmann said.
Earth Day officially falls on Tuesday but is celebrated in Tucson and many other places on Saturday.
The combined events, a new location and growing public concern about the environment are expected to help attract several thousand people, Ricca said.
