The story: The five-year marriage between University of Arizona basketball coach Lute Olson and wife Christine enters its final stages as both sides agree on a divorce settlement.

Your take: At last, they can get on with their lives. I'm talking about the Citizen's online readers, who have commented furiously during the Olsons' story while claiming not to understand what all the fuss is about, and who have criticized the Citizen for placing before their eyes something they apparently cannot resist reading.

And so it is with this latest twist. "Maybe we can get back to dealing with news that we care about," Mary Ann. H. says. "When did the Citizen turn into the National Enquirer . . . ?" Joe N. asks. Martha G. is somewhat more honest: "This is lame, but I do look forward to see who will write the book first." Menowanna B. comments that she did not read the story. "It's their business, not ours."

Maybe, but we can't help but eavesdrop. "We'll all complain about this being a phony news story - whine, whine - but we all read it," Ray L. says.

That's because "it involves Tucson's most prominent citizen," says Joe B., who made the comment atop this column. And Edwin F. argues that the story should interest UA basketball fans because "a long, protracted divorce" would have distracted Olson. "We need him to be focused on the team."

Obviously, some of the ladies who posted here have had some bad experiences with the opposite sex and are suffering some sort of transference. Sorry about that. I put a lot more stock in the 24 years of integrity and class that Lute Olson has displayed.
