How could the Arizona Wildcats top their victory over No. 2-ranked Oregon?
Beating Arizona State on Dec. 1 in Tempe would do it.
"I can't remember a UA-ASU game where there's more on the table," Arizona linebacker Spencer Larsen said. "It should be a great atmosphere. I gotta be ready for that one."
No. 9 ASU could come into the "Duel in the Desert" with a Rose Bowl berth at stake if it defeats USC at Sun Devil Stadium on Thanksgiving. ASU (9-1, 6-1 Pac-10), off this week, sits alone in first place in the Pac-10.
Arizona (5-6, 4-4) could become bowl-eligible with a win and possibly finish fourth in the league, which could mean a trip to the Emerald, Las Vegas or Armed Service bowls.
"It's going to be huge," UA receiver Mike Thomas said. "There's a lot of emotion going to be flying. It's a rivalry game. Everything is on the line. Hopefully, we can keep our composure."
The Cats talked about ASU even before leaving the locker room Thursday night to join fans and family on the field celebrating UA's 34-24 win over Oregon.
"It was just a real relaxed mood," Larsen said. "We're just realizing that we're one game away from being bowl-eligible, knocking off two ranked teams, winning four in a row."
UA failed to secure a bowl bid a year ago, losing 28-14 at home against ASU after winning three straight games. UA coaches won't let the players forget that as they prepare for the 6 p.m. game at Sun Devil Stadium on ESPN or ESPN2.
Arizona will enjoy Thursday night's win for a few days and take the weekend off before practicing Monday.
"We know they are an excellent team," UA coach Mike Stoops said about the Sun Devils. "They are one of the most complete teams in the conference. . . . We have to come out with our A game for sure."
UA will practice three days next week, then take a couple of days off for the holiday.
"I'm going to go home for Thanksgiving and have some of my mom's cooking," quarterback Willie Tuitama said. "Then it's all about ASU. It's going to be a fun game."
Plus Oregon had 2 atrocious calls go against them. Cason's punt return for a TD should have been called for a block in the back on Glasper at the point of Cason's catch. Also Ageyman fumble was recovered by Oregon not Arizona.
Looks like he is responsible for about 16 out of 53 (as I write this), which is just over 30%.
Let's look at this for a sec':
1) His nickname is that of a guy who grabbed the top slot on ESPN's "25 Biggest Sports Flops" list from the previous quarter century
2) He doesn't even like the local team.
That's a little strange to me. I mean, I have looked up newspaper websites in other teams' hometowns precisely _twice_ this year. I certainly wouldn't dream of taking time to create an account anywhere but my home team's page, much less be responsible for a third of the posts.
Are you out of work? No friends? Suffering from depression? This is not just smack talk, dude. What you're doing strikes me as genuinely strange...
How did that all work out?
Gooooooooo GunDevils!!
