A California liquor distributing company has agreed to pay the state $22,500 for selling and shipping wine directly to Arizona residents.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled last year that a system forcing producers from out of state to go through an in-state distributor was unconstitutional in New York and Michigan.
Those systems were much like the one in Arizona, but the Legislature has not changed the law.
In the agreement with the state's Department of Liquor Licenses and Control, Schlossadler Inc. admitted to shipping wine produced in California right to consumers in Arizona, violating the law by not selling their product through an Arizona wholesaler.
