Two judges and a Casa Grande attorney have been recommended to be the next Arizona Court of Appeals judge.
The Commission on Appellate Court Appointments recommended Gila County Superior Court Judge Peter J. Cahill, 56, of Globe; Cochise County Superior Court Judge Wallace R. Hoggatt, 50, of Sierra Vista; and Garye L. Vasquez, 47, of Casa Grande.
Cahill and Vasquez are Democrats; Hoggatt is a Republican. By law, the nominating commission must recommend at least three candidates, who cannot all be from the same political party.
Cahill is married to Pima County Superior Court Judge Terry Chandler.
Gov. Janet Napolitano will fill the vacancy on the appeals court's Division II, which covers southern Arizona. The vacancy was created by Jan Flórez's retirement.
