WHAT: 21st Anniversary Tucson International Mariachi Conference

OBJECTIVE: To continue Hispanic musical and cultural traditions and to raise funds for the Children's Services at La Frontera Center Inc., a nonprofit community behavioral health center serving the Tucson community since 1968. As it celebrates 21 years of musical excellence and cultural pride, this event reaches out to Hispanic and non-Hispanic populations alike in cities across the country. It offers training to young mariachi and folklÃ3rico students and promotes understanding of Hispanic culture.

WHAT: Baile Folklórico
WHEN: Tuesday, April 22

This event is new to the conference. The world class baile folklÃ3rico group from the University of Colima will perform. It's guaranteed to be an evening of excitement with extraordinary dancing. For more information, please call Lolie Gomez, Conference Coordinator, at (520) 838-3908.
WHAT: Mariachi and Baile Folklórico Workshops
WHERE: Tucson Convention Center
WHEN: Wednesday, April 23 through Friday, April 25
REGISTRATION: Students of all ages are invited to sign up for traditional classes taught by professional mariachi musicians and folklórico instructors. For two-and-a-half days they will be provided materials, the opportunity to play with their peers and will have total immersion in their disciplines. WHAT: Mariachi Participant Showcase
WHERE: Tucson Convention Center Music Hall

The Showcase Concert is a culmination of the mariachi and baile folklÃ3rico

WHAT: Espectacular Concert
WHERE: Tucson Convention Center Arena
WHEN: Friday, April 25, 7:30 p.m.
COST: $26, $36, $56 and $76 (includes T.C.C. Facility Fee).
The 21st Anniversary Extravaganza will again see the world's greatest mariachis sharing a stage at this breathtaking performance. Slated to appear are Los Camperos de Nati Cano, Mariachi Cobre, with special appearance by Pablo Montero and his mariachi group. WHAT: Fiesta de Garibaldi
COST: Free!
WHERE: Armory Park, South Sixth Avenue and 13th Street, Downtown Tucson
WHEN: Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The Fiesta de Garibaldi is a traditional re-creation of the Garibaldi Plaza in
Mexico City featuring food, booths, mariachis and baile folklórico dancers. It is truly an event for the whole family. Anticipated attendance is more than 40,000.
