Two special education teachers from the Arizona State Prison Complex-Tucson will be honored Thursday as the Department of Corrections celebrates National Women's History Month.
Karen Reynolds and Kim Keller, correctional education program teachers at the Tucson prison, will receive internal recognition awards at a Phoenix ceremony.
Reynolds and Keller assess and educate inmates with a variety of disabilities, tailoring curriculum and objectives for each student, according to a news release.
They also prepare students who have passed elementary and secondary school levels for postsecondary study, the news release said.
Thirty-six percent of DOC's work force consists of women who serve in key positions in each of the state's 10 prisons as community corrections officers, investigators, recruiters and at all levels of administration, the news release said.
