Four Tucson students are semifinalists in a nationwide science fair competition:

• Peter Angeli, an Orange Grove Middle School seventh-grader, for his project, "The Effect of Different Telescopes on the Accuracy of Measuring Moon Mountains."

• Megan Gleason, a sixth-grader at St. Michael's Parish Day School, for "What Is the Shape of Solar Heated Water in the Sonoran Desert?"

• Barnes Jannuzi and Zac Bathen, Doolen Middle School seventh-graders, for "White Lightning for Grease Lightning or the Best Veggie for Your V6."

They will compete in the Society for Science & the Public's national competition and could be among the 30 finalists selected on Sept. 17. The final 10 winners will receive $40,000 in scholarships provided by the society.
