Tucson police are looking for the driver of a car who struck a man riding a bicycle Sunday.

The bicyclist, Kyle A. Wassenaar, 50, died of his injuries at a hospital Monday, said Tucson police Officer Linda Galindo.

In a news release, she said detectives determined Wassenaar was riding west across Mission Road near Irvington Place, without a helmet, when he was hit by a vehicle heading north.

Witnesses told police a small red sports car stopped and then "fled from the scene."

Galindo said investigators are trying to determine if drugs, alcohol or speed were a factor in the collision.

Police are asking anyone with information about the driver of the red car to call 88-CRIME or 911.

Kyle was hit aprox around 1:10 & 1:30am he was on is way home from circle k. If you know the road on mission and irvington pl there is a turn lane for north ,south, east and west, It is likley he was in the turn bay when he was hit. IN THIS TOWN THEY KILL ONE OR MORE A WEEK SOME A DAY WHEN IT COMES TO BICYCLIST AND MOTORCYCLIST
THE BIKE LANES ARE NOT BIKER FRIENDLY..YOU BIKE IN THIS TOWN MUST PEOPLE ON BIKES HAVE TO BE DEFENSIVE DRIVERS THEY HAVE OR DIE OR END UP SERIOUSLY INJURED. SO WHO EVER CAN HIT SOMEONE AND LEVE THEM TO DIE THAT IS THE PERSON IN THE WRONG. KYLE WE LOVE YOU MAN. god belss you and yours... my heart goes out oto his familey your brother, son, dad, was a great man

Also to Roy H in regards to your comment.....Kyle was only traveling less that 1/2 mile away, do you ALWAYS wear a helmet??? Not sure if that would have really helped if you are left at the side of the road without assistance for God knows how long!!! Let's see how righteous you are when a loved one is taken this way!!!

I too am one of Kyle sisters, who loved and cared for him along with his Dad, sisters and son!! PLEASE come forward if you know of anything.....this is NOT something anyone deserves....to be left on the side of the road to die alone. Kyle touched many people's lives and was a very giving, caring person. And as my sister said, our hearts are broken!!!!
